  • Dr. Clardy is both clinical and research faculty in the Division of Neuroimmunology within the Department of Neurology. Her clinical specialization and research focus is in the field of autoimmune neurology, which encompasses the evaluation and management of both autoimmune and paraneoplastic disorders of the nervous system. The spectrum of autoimmune and paraneoplastic neurological disorders intersects all traditional neurology subspecialties, including movement disorders, epilepsy, behavioral/cognitive, neuromuscular, autonomic, demyelinating, and neuro-oncologic.

    Dr. Clardy is the principal investigator (PI) of an NIH U01 grant (via the NeuroNEXT Clinical Trials Network) to fund the ExTINGUISH Trial—the first prospective, international, and randomized clinical trial for NMDA receptor encephalitis, at 20 US sites and 2 European sites, with enrollment beginning early 2022.

    She is devoted to the care of patients affected by antibody-mediated disorders of the nervous system, both autoimmune and paraneoplastic. Her areas of focus include autoimmune encephalitis, neurosarcoidosis, neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody disease (MOGAD), stiff-person syndrome, myelopathy/transverse myelitis, and central nervous system complications of rheumatologic disease.


    She established the autoimmune neurology clinic at the ÈËÆÞÖгöÊÓƵ of Utah—one of the few clinics in the United States focused on serving this group of patients. Dr. Clardy is also the director of the autoimmune neurology fellowship program.

    Was disappointed in having flown from another state to consult with Dr. Clardy, only to find that she had only casually pursued a smattering of the records and studies sent, did not offer to avail me of any of the resources of the facility; no bloodwork ordered; physical exam was extremely perfunctory. Overall an exceptionally demoralizing experience, with no imeaningdul clinical nsights offered. Hope your experience will be better.

    I tried for 9 months to get answers regarding my health. My husband and I did our own research. We found Doctor Clardy at the U. We encouraged our Family Doctor to make a referral. After waiting several months to get in to her and many, many tests and blood work later, we finally received sone answers. I have been seeing Dr. Clardy since 2016. She has helped me tremendously. I would greatly recommend her for your medical needs.
