About SCALE-UP Counts
The SCALE-UP Counts study focuses on supporting schools in Utah in managing COVID-19 risks and helping students, school staff and their families stay healthy.
This study involves delivering text messages to faculty and school staff as well as the parents/guardians of students about COVID-19.

Who can participate?
Students, parents/guardians, and school staff with:
- Access to a mobile phone that can receive text messages and phone calls
- Access to a device (phone or other) with an internet connection
Why should I take part?
Your involvement can make a difference for future COVID-19 prevention efforts among school communities.
If I participate, what will I be asked to do?
You may be asked to:
- Receive text messages with information about COVID-19, including testing and vaccination
- Complete questionnaires to gather some basic information and learn about the impact COVID-19 has had on you and your family
- Receive a follow-up phone call from a health coach
Phone calls with a health coach may be recorded for quality and training purposes. Your information will only be shared with the SCALE-UP Counts research team and the .
Will I receive compensation?
There is no cost to you for participating in this study. Participants can receive gift cards after they answer questionnaires, up to $25 per survey.
Participation in this study is voluntary. You may choose not to answer a question, opt out of receiving messages, withdraw your consent, or end your participation at any time, for any reason, without penalty or loss of benefits.
