More than 50 Utahns who are former refugees received comprehensive eye exams, eyeglasses, and charitable surgery referrals at the John A. Moran Eye Center鈥檚 Hope in Sight Outreach Clinic on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
The clinic ensures New Americans access to the vision care they need to fully participate in the community.
Among the attendees were Viktoriia, 39, and her son Bohdan, 17. The pair came to Utah from Ukraine less than a year ago. 鈥淭he transition has been hard,鈥 said Viktoriia. 鈥淚 want to make sure we鈥檙e both getting the care we need, especially Bohdan, so he can continue swimming.鈥
Before moving to Utah, Bohdan was a top finisher in his swimming events, earning many medals. Despite having to adjust to a new home and school, he has settled in well with his new high school swim team and has continued his winning streak.
鈥淚 am so thankful that Moran is able to provide this care for my son and I,鈥 said Viktoriia.
Partnering community organizations, including the Refugee and Immigrant Center 鈥 Asian Association of Utah (RIC-AAU), the International Rescue Committee, Catholic Community 人妻中出视频, and Utah 人妻中出视频 and THRIVE Center for Survivors of Torture (formerly Utah 人妻中出视频 and Human Rights), refer patients for care at the clinic.
The Moran Eye Center鈥檚 Global Outreach Division started the clinic, held periodically throughout the year, in 2019. It is supported by generous contributions to the division, which works to increase access to eye care in Utah and worldwide.
