Ike K. Ahmed, MD, FRCSC, director of the John A. Moran Eye Center鈥檚 Alan S. Crandall Center for Glaucoma Innovation, has been awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal.
In a ceremony on March 5, 2025, the Governor General of Canada honored Dr. Ahmed with the rare and historic medal. This prestigious distinction is reserved for individuals who have made a profound impact on Canada or achieved extraordinary accomplishments on the global stage.
Ahmed is recognized worldwide for his groundbreaking work in glaucoma and surgical complications and splits his time between his practices in Canada and the Moran Eye Center. He has an international patient base and has been invited to perform surgery on four continents. In 2024, The Ophthalmologist magazine Power List named Dr. Ahmed the No. 1 most influential ophthalmologist worldwide.
Through his pioneering research鈥攂oth individually and through the 鈥擠r. Ahmed has revolutionized glaucoma treatment. He coined the term Micro-Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) and played a key role in developing innovative surgical techniques and devices that have redefined patient care.
