Many conditions that we see in our triage service can be treated during the initial visit. The operating rooms at the Moran Eye Center are available for surgical repairs, and our physicians always provide follow-up evaluation and care for patients with eye trauma.
In Case of Eye Trauma
As a general rule, if eye symptoms come quickly, are severe in nature or persistent, or if you just feel that you need to be seen by an ophthalmologist, it might be a good idea to seek care.
Symptoms
Symptoms of eye trauma can include these things:
- Severe eyelid swelling or inability to open the eye
- Persistent pain
- Sudden sensitivity to light
- New-onset flashing lights
- Any sudden change or loss of vision
Emergency Steps
If you experience a trauma or eye injury, you should follow these steps:
- Don’t try and remove the object
- Loosely cover the eye
- Seek emergency care immediately
Chemical Burn
In the case of a chemical burn, flush the eye with water before getting urgent care.
