The assumed mindset is patients should be able to trust doctors because doctors presumably have more education. But placing doctors on an invisible pedestal can have negative connotations. The motion of elitism inhibits solidarity and creates barriers—barriers between each other, and our patients. Patients should not only be able to trust their doctors, but understanding and comfortably conversing about their health needs and concerns are equally, if not more, important. Concluding the conversation about elitism in medicine, in S4E11, Harjit and Leen discuss breaking away from elitism to provide better patient care.
