In organization theory, mutual aid involves communities engaging in voluntary and reciprocal exchange of resources and services for mutual benefit. Mutual aid extends beyond charity or advocacy work—it embodies genuine solidarity. Politics have made it easier to dismiss mutual aid efforts, but at its core, mutual aid has been utilized by BIPOC communities for centuries in response to oppression and occupation by colonizers.
