  • Dr. Baron is a Professor (Tenured) in the Division of Public ÈËÆÞÖгöÊÓƵ, Department of Family and Preventive Medicine. She is a clinical psychologist with specialty training in Behavioral Sleep Medicine.

    Dr. Baron completed her bachelor's degree with honors and distinction at the Ohio State ÈËÆÞÖгöÊÓƵ. She completed her master's degree and PhD in clinical psychology at the ÈËÆÞÖгöÊÓƵ of Utah. Her predoctoral residency in health psychology was completed at Rush ÈËÆÞÖгöÊÓƵ Medical School. After graduate school, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in health services research as well as a MPH degree at Northwestern ÈËÆÞÖгöÊÓƵ. Prior to her position at the ÈËÆÞÖгöÊÓƵ of Utah, Dr. Baron held faculty positions at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern ÈËÆÞÖгöÊÓƵ and Rush ÈËÆÞÖгöÊÓƵ Medical School.

    Dr. Baron leads one of the nation's most prominent behavior sleep research programs as well as treats patients for sleep disorders. In the clinic, she provides Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), the most effective treatment for chronic insomnia. She also delivers cognitive and behavioral treatment for other sleep disorders including circadian disorders, problems using CPAP treatment in sleep apnea, nightmares, sleep walking and coping with disorders of excessive sleepiness such as narcolepsy.

    Dr. Baron also translates her passion for the science of sleep and sleep disorders treatment as the director of the behavioral sleep medicine training program and is enthusiastic about increasing the training and awareness of non-drug treatments for sleep disorders because they are highly effective at improving sleep and quality of life.

    Her research has been supported by the NIH, two current R01 and one R21 research grant. Dr. Baron's research has been widely covered by the press including being featured in the press such as the New York Times, Consumer and World Reports, Cooking Light, Men's ÈËÆÞÖгöÊÓƵ, Webmd.com and Wirecutter.com.

    Dr. Kelly Baron is amazing. I came to her after being on ambien for 20 plus years. I wanted to taper off, which I am still working on. But she has worked with me, thru my ups and downs. She listens, which is the biggest positive for me. She is my coach thru this challenge. And she helps me with goals and blips. I am so glad I found her to help.

    Dr. Baron is amazing. She understands and is completely honest. I wanted to get off ambien after being on it for over 25yrs. I have been tapering off, and now I am doing the hard work of rewiring my brain to learn how to sleep. Dr. Baron tells me this will be hard. It is, but I have goals and she is helping me achieve each one. I am looking forward to the day of sleeping like I use to with out drugs.
