Does Microneedling Hurt?

Multiple, tiny needles on your face doesn鈥檛 sound relaxing, but an aesthetician uses a topical numbing cream before starting the procedure.

鈥淲e get this question a lot鈥攁nd we get it,鈥 Richards says. 鈥淣eedles on your face sounds a little bit scary. Keep in mind that the needles are incredibly small. How Many Sessions Are Needed?

An aesthetician will make their ultimate recommendation, but people typically get three to six sessions with a four- to six-week break in between each session. What Does Aftercare Look Like?

Healing takes five to seven days. Follow these steps for a successful recovery:

  • 顿辞苍鈥檛 wash your face or put product on your face until the following morning
  • 顿辞苍鈥檛 be in the direct sun for five to seven days
  • 顿辞苍鈥檛 apply make up to two days
  • 顿辞苍鈥檛 exercise vigorously for seven days

Richards advises to treat your skin as if you have a mild sunburn. Clean your skin gently with a mild cleanser. Use a moisturizer two to three times a day.

Should You Take Time Off Work?

According to Richards, some patients take time off work, while others schedule sessions for the end of the week so they have the weekend to recover. Side effects are minimal and can include mild redness, swelling, dryness, and itchy skin for about three days following your treatment.

It鈥檚 important to follow aftercare instructions to reduce the risk of infection, which can lengthen the healing process.

Is Microneedling for Everyone?
